Z Purlin
Z purlins (aka Zee or Zed Purlins) are metal roof framing members that resemble the shape of a letter “Z”. They are typically installed parallel to the building eave and support the roof decking or sheeting. Z purlins are supported by rafters or walls, and they are commonly used in both roof and wall applications.
- Galvanized Z purlins are coated with a layer of zinc that protects them from rust and corrosion. This makes them a good choice for applications where exposure to the elements is high, such as in coastal areas or areas with a lot of snow.
- Red oxide Z purlins are coated with a layer of red oxide paint that also provides some corrosion protection. However, red oxide purlins are not as durable as galvanized purlins and may need to be repainted more often.
- In general, galvanized purlins are a better choice for applications where corrosion protection is critical. However, red oxide purlins are a less expensive option and may be sufficient for applications where corrosion protection is not as important.
